Spanish Flan

Spanish Flan

While travelling in Spain, we, of course, ate a lot of flan. Mostly different types bought at the supermarket. During our day trip to some of the nicest villages in Catalonia, we stopped for lunch at a lovely local bar in Prades. We had super nice meals and home-made flan for dessert. Surprise surprise, it was so much better than any flan I had ever tasted, oh, it was heaven.

Until yesterday…

About a month after the trip, he asked me to make flan at home. I was sceptical, tried once before maybe 5 years ago, wasn’t great. But oh well, I love flan and we already had the ingredients, so I made it.

OMG, it was incredible. Saying was because it’s all gone. Disappeared in no time (no regrets) and we just couldn’t believe it tasted like the one in Prades, or even better 🙂

Spanish Flan

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 can (530 g) condensed milk
  • 1 can (same size) evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  1. In a saucepan, on medium heat melt the sugar until liquid and golden brown. Pour evenly it at the bottom of a baking dish. Let set. It’s important NOT to use a baking dish with removable bottom as in this case the sugar would leak.
  2. Preheat the oven to 175 °C. Using an electric mixer beat the eggs until triple in size, add the condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla and beat again. Pour on top of the set sugar layer. Cover with aluminium foil and bake for 1 hour.
  3. Remove from the oven, allow to cool completely. Run a knife around the edges and place the baking form into a shallow tray or pan filled with hot water to facilitate removal.
  4. After a few minutes, carefully turn it upside down onto the serving plate.
  5. Slice and enjoy 🙂

Tobulas IspaniÅ¡kas desertas “Flan”

  • 1 stiklinÄ— (200 g) cukraus
  • 5 kiauÅ¡iniai
  • SkardinÄ— (530 g) kondensuoto pieno
  • SkardinÄ— (tokio pat dydžio) sutirÅ¡tinto pieno (nesaldinto)
  • 1 Å¡aukÅ¡telis vanilÄ—s ekstrakto

  1. Puode ant vidutininio kaitrumo ugnies išlydykite cukrų kol taps skaidrus. Iš karto tolygiai paskirstykite ant kepimo formos dugno. Leiskite sustingti. Labai svarbu NEnaudoti kepimo indo atsegamais kraštais, nes kepdamas cukrus išbėgs.
  2. Įkaitinkite orkaitę iki 175 °C. Gerai išplakite kiaušinius su kondensuotu pienu ir sutirštintu pienu, įmaišykite vanilės ekstraktą.
  3. Atsargiai supilkite kiaušinių masę ant sustingusio cukraus. Uždenkite aliuminio folija ir kepkite įkaitintoje orkaitėje maždaug 1 valandą.
  4. Leiskite pilnai atvÄ—sti. Kad bÅ«tų lengviau iÅ¡imti, peiliu “apeikite” kraÅ¡tus. Ä®dÄ—kite į karÅ¡to vandens vonelÄ™, kad bÅ«tų lengviau iÅ¡imti.
  5. Atsargiai bet greitai apverskite kepimo indą ant serviravimo lėkštės. Desertas turėtu nesunkiai iškristi.
  6. Skanaus
